Live and in person at Brookline Booksmith! Celebrate the newest Brookline Poet Laureate, Jennifer Barber, reading her work. Past laureates Jan Schreiber, Judith Steinbergh and Zvi A. Sesling will also read their work.

More About the Poets

Jennifer Barber’s new collection, forthcoming from The Word Works in 2022, is The Sliding Boat Our Bodies Made. She is the current Poet Laureate of Brookline.

Judith Steinbergh, author of five collections of poetry, has taught poetry to students of all ages. She was chosen as the first Poet Laureate of Brookline and served from 2012 to 2014.

Jan Schreiber was Poet Laureate of Brookline from 2015 to 2017. His most recent poetry books are Peccadilloes and Bay Leaves, and his translations, The Poems of Paul Valéry, came out in a paperback bilingual edition in September.

Zvi A. Sesling was Poet Laureate of Brookline from 2017 to 2020. He has published numerous poems and flash fiction. He edits Muddy River Poetry Review.

I will be reading (virtually) for the Lily Poetry Salon with Denise Bergman on Friday, September 17, at 7 p.m. I will read some new poems as well as some from Works on Paper; Denise will read sections from her recent collection, The Shape of the Keyhole, along with new poems. The Center for the Arts is located between Davis Square and Union Square. Parking is located behind the armory at the rear of the building. Arts at the Armory is approximately a 15 minute walk from Davis Square which is on the MTBA Red Line. You can also find us by using either the MBTA RT 88 and RT 90 bus that can be caught either at Lechmere (Green Line) or Davis Square (Red Line). Get off at the Highland Avenue and Lowell Street stop. You can also get to us from Sullivan Square (Orange Line) by using the MBTA RT 90 bus. Get off at the Highland Avenue and Benton Road stop.
